Miles of hiking trails await you at the largest state park in California, the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. The park contains 12 wilderness areas, a variety of wildlife and plenty of hiking opportunities.

This hiking tour is customized to your desires. The tour guides will provide entertaining commentary for your tour as they are experts in local geology, Native American culture, plants and animal life. So, feel free to ask questions and enjoy the natural beauty that will surround you.

The Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is named after Spanish explorer Juan Baptista de Anza and the Spanish name, "borrego," which means bighorn sheep. The park features wildflowers, palm groves, cacti and beautiful views. Its wildlife includes roadrunners, golden eagles, foxes, mule deer, bighorn sheep, iguanas and the red diamond rattlesnake.

Summary:

48 HOURS MINIMUM ADVANCE BOOKING REQUIRED. Tour includes pickup from most hotels and resorts located east of Palm Springs in the Greater Palm Desert Area. Child ages are 13 and under. Please reserve online, or call us toll-free at 800-409-2191. There is a $3.95 processing fee per order. This is a flat fee regardless of the number of tickets or tours purchased on an order.
There is a service charge per ticket. This charge will be reflected on your summary before you checkout. The total shown includes any and all taxes, fuel surcharges, and service fees. There are no additional charges.

Cancellation Policy: There are no refunds. All sales are final.

Change Fee Policy: If changes are allowed on a tour or activity, a $20.00 per reservation change fee will be applied for any change to a reservation. Please note that some tours and activities do not allow any changes. Date changes can be made only if we can confirm availability on the new date. While we cannot guarantee any changes can be made, all change requests must be submitted a minimum of 24 hours prior to the tour departure and must be handled on an individual basis through our Reservations Center.

The state park's two most popular hiking trails are the 3-mile round-trip hike from Borrego Palm Canyon to the falls and the 6.5 miles round-trip hike from the canyon to South Fork. The hike to the falls consists of a 600-foot elevation gain. The hike to South Fork consists of a 1,400-foot elevation gain.

The Borrego Palm Canyon is the third-largest palm oasis in California. The hike to the falls visits the first palm grove and a waterfall. The hike to South Fork will take you exploring further into the canyon. These hikes contain a Native American aspect to them as you will pass desert plants that they used for food and shelter. Willow plants were used for home building and bow making. Brittlebrush and creosote were used for their healing capabilities. Honey, mesquite cactus and beavertail cactus were food staples.

~ For your comfort, ALWAYS wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes; layered, comfortable clothing; a hat; and sunscreen. A light jacket in spring and early summer and a heavy jacket and gloves during fall and winter are recommended.
~ Wear appropriate, waterproof shoes.
~ Stay on designated trails only.
~ No smoking is permitted on trails.
~ All plants and animal life are protected by state and federal laws. DO NOT remove or disturb them.
